Fungi and the Future of Pollution

After decades of industrial pollution running rampant across the biosphere, we are left with the question: what are we going to do about it? From oil spills, to pesticides, to heavy metals, the ecosystems we rely on are increasingly becoming poisoned, but solutions are out there - in the form of plants, bacteria, and fungi.

Recent discoveries of the ability of fungi to break down or remove many toxins reveals the potential for healing our wounded planet and leaving a positive legacy for future generations. What’s more, certain species may even hold the keys to breaking down civilisation’s most notorious substance: plastic.
